HOSPITALS COSTS LEVY LIMITATIONS HALF 1946-47 LEVEL In consequence of the adoption of the Local Government Commission's recommendation regarding hospital finance, State funds will carry approximately three-quarters of the cost of operating the Cook Hospital in future years.
The new system will come into operation during the next financial year, and hospital boards have been advised that in making up estimates for 1947-48, they should take account of the factors influencing the levies on constituent local bodies.
In the case of Cook Hospital, the amount levied upon four constituent local bodies for 1946-47 was £56,400, representing an over-all rate on the hospital district on the basis of .970 d in the £1 of capital value. The total was divided among the four constituent areas in the following proportions:—
Totals £13,948,429 £56,400 Under the new enactment covering the finance of hospitals, the savings of the respective areas will amount to about half of last year’s hospital rates. All four constituent local bodies should be in a position to finance much-needed deferred improvements to public works within their areas, and also to give some relief to ratepayers as compared with the demands of recent years.
