STAFF AMENITIES
TE PUIA_HOSPITAL INDOOR SPORTS ROOM ANOTHER TENNIS COURT A special report upon staff amenities at the Te Puia Hospital was received at the latest meeting of the Waiapu Hospital Board when a substantial outlay in accomodation and gear for sports activities was decided on by the board. Those present at. the meeting were Mr. V. G. H. Rickard, chairman, Miss K. Beale, Messrs. C. H. McCracken, W. F. Metcalfe, E. Rouse and T. Tamepo. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs. W. H. O. Johnston and H. M. Thomas. The board discussed the report of a special committee set up to consider the needs of the staff for social and sports amenities. The main recommendation was that the board should provide a room suitable for indoor sport which could also he used for social purposes; and the laying-down of an additional tennis-court for the use of the staff. The board adopted the recommendations, and also placed an order for six tennis racquets for the use of the staff. A further concession to the nursing staff and aides was decided upon after discussion of a letter from the Wairarapa board, which outlined the arrangements many boards were making to provide shoes and stockings for duty use in hospitals. It was agreed that this was a fair charge upon the finances of the board, and the secretary was instructed to advise trainees and aides that payments of 25s per quarter would be made to cover the cost of special shoes and stockings for duty use. The resignation of Sister L. Dysart from the post of acting-matron of the maternity home at Waipiro Bay was received with regret. The works committee reported in connection with the Waipiro Bay maternity home, and the board authorised certain internal repair work to be carried out.
