VISIT TO SOUTHLAND
GOVERNOR-GENERAL PUBLIC INVESTITURE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 10. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Frcyberg, and Lady Freyberg arrived in Invercargill by car from Dunedin yesterday. His Excellency will hold a public investiture in the Civic Theatre. Invercargill. this evening at which insignia, decorations and medals awarded for service in Greece and Crete. North Africa, Italy, Western Europe, the Pacific and New Zealand will be presented to approximately 45 members of the armed forces. This will be the first occasion on which an investiture has been held in a provincial centre. These ceremonies arc usually held at Government House at either Wellington, Auckland or in Christchurch. During the war public investitures have been held in those cities and at Dunedin. The Governor-General will open the Southland A. and P. Association’s summer show to-morrow and will return north on Thursday.
