WARNING TO JOCKEYS
CLOSE WATCH ON RIDING CROSS-COUNTRY EVENTS (9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 8. The stewards of the National Hunt Committee called in 25 leading jumping race jockeys at Sandown Park on Saturday and warned them that a close watch would be kept on all steeple, chasers and hurdlers, says the Sunday Express.
The stewards emphasised that the volume of betting at jumping meetings was now bigger than ever before and the temptations to jockeys proportionately greater. The drive was instituted to clean up winter racing and to exercise tighter control on irregular form shown by in-an-out running.
