HISTORY OF LORD’S
FAMOUS CRICKET GROUND LONDON, Dec. 6. Sir Pelham Wai-ner, who has himself known the Lord's ground for sixty years, has written a very full history of the famous cricket ground and the great matches it has staged. The book is to be published early this month. , Thomas Lord’s first cricket ground was opened in 1787 on what ia now known as
Dorset Square, and when the site was taken for housing in 1810 Lord moved to two adjacent fields in the St. John’s Wood area, taking most of the turf from Dorset Square with him. Lord was left in occupation of the new ground for only three years, however, for in 1813 Regent’s Canal was cut through the middle of it. Lord then acquired the present site.
