Indecision marked the Sydney Stock Exchange dealings yesterday following the news that share pegging will be lifted in the new year. The chairman of the Stock Exchange, Mr. F. E. Tilley, said that some internal control would be instituted to prevent any immediate large gains in share values. Market leaders were quiet and lacked any concerted trend. WAGES AND LIVING STANDARD An increase in the basic wage, while long overdue, would not of necessity improve the recipients' standard of living, said Sir John Butters, chairman of Associated Newspapers, Limited, at the annual meeting in Sydney. Unless more goods were produced at a lower cost such an increase could reduce the standard of living, as well as the number of men in employment.
