SPEAKER DEFEATED

ELECTION COUNT MR. NORDMEYER SAFE SEATS STILL UNCHANGED The official count of the general election figures for the Parnell electorate confirms the defeat of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Mr. F. W. Schramm, Labour candidate, by Mr. D. M. Rae, National. Mr. Rae’s majority has been increased from 50 on the provisional count to 206. The count is complete except for a small number of servicemen’s votes cast in England. Of the postal, absentee. declaration and seamen’s votes Mr. Eac received 537 and Mr. Schramm 379. ' The return of the Minister of Health, Mr. A. H. Nordmeyer. Labour candidate "for Oamaru. has also been confirmed on the official count. There is probably a small parcel of servicemen’s votes still 1o come which cannot affect the result. Mr. Nordmeyer’s majority of 174 on the preliminary count has been increased to 232. Of other doubtful seats, Mr. F. Langstone (Labour) has won Roskill, Mr.

T. E. Skinner (Labour) Tamaki. and Mr. T. P. Shand (National) Marlborough.

Langstone (Labour) 6557 (6189), R. G. McElroy (National) 6418 (5984). Majority for Langstone 139 (205). Of the postal, absentee, declaration and seamen's votes Langstone received 429 and McElroy 521. No service votes are included, but these are not sufficient to affect the result. Tamaki. —T. E. Skinner (Labour) 6730 (6285), J. G. C. Wales (National) 6511 (5965). Majority for Skinner 219 (320). Of the postal, absentee, declaration and seamen’s votes Skinner received 464 and Wales 552. No service votes are included.

Eden.—H. Fortune (National) 7055 (6376), W. Freer (Labour) 5774 (5489). Majority for Fortune 1281 (887). Ot the postal, absentee, declaration and seamen’s votes Fortune received 581 and Freer 346. The figures include 33 service votes for Fortune and 58 tor Freer.

Marlborough.-T. P. Shand (National) 6878, E. P. Meachcn (Labour) 6663. Majority tor Shand 215. Nelson—C. H. Goodman (Labour) 6626, E. R. Neale (National) 7223. Informal 78. Majority for Neale 597. The figures do not include soldiers’ votes. Oamaru, —A. H. Nordmeyer (Labour) 7079, T. R. Beatty (National) 6847, G. P. Cuttriss (Independent) 55. Informal 50. Majority tor Nordmeyer 232. Service votes, except for a small parcel, are included.

Fahiatua. —K. Holyoake (National), 8413; O. E. Nicdorer (Labour), 4713. Majority for Holyoake. 3760. Of the service votes to date Holyoake has received 43 and Niederer 48. Wairarapa.— G. H. Mackley (National) 7095: G. A. Hansen (Labour). 6860; informal, 173. Majority for Mackley, 235. Of the soldiers’ votes, Hansen received 75 and Mackley 30.
