SCHOOL GALA DAY

SUCCESS AT KAITI SUBSTANTIAL PROCEEDS With the end of the school year at hand, incidental functions are the order of the day, and on Thursday afternoon, the Kaiti School was en fete with its annual gala day. Ideal weather, excellent organisation and a general enthusiasm conduced to a particularly successful day. An astonishing amount of produce, sweets, and cakes vas provided by pupils and friends to stock the various stalls, the proceeds from which constituted a record. Afternoon tea was provided for 'idtors, while as far as the children were concerned, perhaps the most popular event of the day was the distribution of free ice-creams and cordials . In field events the following primer children were successful: Caroline Barry, Peter Alan, Ada Gibbons, Ruaiii King. Mary Somerfield, Frank Moore, Anthony Wickens, Lorraine Gordon, James Armour, Roger Oates, Tony Hall, Dennis Murphy, Richard Oakey, Michael Fearnley, Joy Wallen, Peter Stevens, Josephine Andrews, Rose Potter, Rae Hardman, and Pamela Grover. Winners in standard class events were -.—Ages 7 to 8: Patsy ICarauria, Margaret Green, Shirley Clarkson. Ami Dobson, Ron Hopps and Barry Hall Ages 9 to 10: Tiny Lardelli, Glen V s Algic. Kathleen Underdown, lohn Moxclv, Ramsay Currie and Timi Kiwi. Ages 11 to 12: Marie Neale, loan Thorpe. Betty Tamatea, Barry Preston, Albert Woodford and Bryan Thorpe.
