CASTING ASHES INTO SEA In compliance with his wishes, the ashes of Mr. Alexander Carson, formerly of Gisborne, a chief engineer of the Union Steam Ship Company, will be cast into the sea over the wreck of the Canadian-Australasian liner Niagara to-night by Captain A. R. Russell, master - of the Union Company’s passenger motor-ship Matua. The Matua will leave Auckland this afternoon for Suva and will be over the wreck of the Niagara near the Hen and Chickens Group to-night. Mr. Carson, who died last month, was at one time a junior engineer in the Niagara and at the time of his death he was acting as second engineer in the Matua.
