WHEAT AND FLOUR

SUPPLIES FOR N.Z.

2,000,000 BUSHELS TO COME (S.K.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 5.

“The wheat and flour controller. Mr. R. McPherson, left for Australia yesterday to discuss with the Australian Government ar.d the Australian Wheat Board matters related to the supply of wheat for New Zealand." said the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. D G. Sullivan.

“There are still some 2,000,000 bushels of wheat dug for shipment from Australia to New Zealand during 194 G under our contract with the Australian Government .but owing to internal transport problems in the Commonwealth it has not been possible to bring this forward to the ports for shipment. “There is. however, a surplus of flour at Australian port flour mills and to relieve the position and obviate any nossibility of a shortage in New Zealand we have as a temnorary measure agreed to take some flour in lieu of some wheat.

“Two ships which recently left New Zealand to pick up wheat in Australia were advised by radio that the wheat was not available at the ports because of Australian railway transport difficulties These vessels will now load flour for the Dominion instead of wheat ”
