FOOD SAVING DRIVE NELSON’S GOOD EFFORT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. Following are the returns for 20 postal districts in the thirty-fourth week .of the New Zealand Famine Emergency Committee’s campaign to save food for Britain, the districts being listed in order of merit calculated on a population basis (butter coupons being mentioned first, with meat coupons in parentheses):— Nelson, 250 (13,819); Oamaru, 152 (4878); Gisborne, 428 (7372); Palmerston North, 392 (9852); New Plymouth, 120 (7579); Hawke’s Bay, 512 (7784); Timaru, 176 (4347); Masterton, 62 (2609); Christchurch, 410 (20,967); Hamilton, 83 (8515); Wanganui, 89 (3414); Invercargill, 120 (3959); Blenheim, 125 (764); Whangarei, 36 (2628); Auckland, 198 (11,343); Thames, 62 (1672); Dunedin, 54 (3672); Greymouth, 62 (620); Wellington, 90 (2907); Westport, 12 (115); totals, butter 3483, meat 119,316.

With a contribution of nearly two coupons a household, Nelson was placed first, Oamaru second, and Gisborne third.

Last week’s contributions brought the Dominion totals to date to ’7,013,459 meat coupons and 288,561 butter coupons.
