FOREIGN TRADE MISSIONS

RETURN TO OLD SYSTEM (10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 2. The Slate Department has asked foreign Governments which still maintain wartime purchasing missions in the United States to terminate or curtail them as much as possible by June 30 except for the purchase of food and raw materials that are in critically short supply.

Negotiations are already proceeding between the United States. Britain. France, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland and Scandinavian countries, and talks with Russia are expected to begin soon. The United States, by insisting on the virtual elimination of trade missions, hopes to clear the way for at a partial return to pre-war methods of handling commerce through private channels. .
