8.8. C. SERVICE BEGUN
BROADCASTS IN RUSSIAN PERSIAN REPORT ISSUED ;(10 a.m.) LONDON, March 25. Without any special announcement the BBC yesterday slipped through the Iron curtain to Russian listeners in the first broadcast in Russian, says the Daily Mail. Russians who tuned in to one of the four powerful BBC transmitters, each working on a carefully selected frequency, heard for the first time what will become a familiar call sign—"Gavorit London” (This is London calling).
The broadcast opened with quotations from the statement by the Persian Prime Minister to the press that he expected the Russian-Persian dispute to be settled before the next meeting of the United Nations’ Security Council.
The Moscow radio, soon after, followed with a full report of M. Sultaneh’s statement in its main news bulletin.
