CONSUMERS will have noted from Press reports the drastic restrictions imposed on those Boards which had exceeded their quota and were listed as Defaulters last week. These restrictions necessitated the disconnection of feeders in the districts concerned. Last week this Board exceeded its quota and therefore it will probably be listed as a Defaulter. Every person and company, whether a taxpayer or not, being the owner of land in New Zealand within the meaning of the Land and Income Tax Act, 1923, and Regulations thereunder is hereby required to furnish on or before the 10th April, 1946, in the prescribed form, a return of such land as at 12 noon on 31st March. 1946, where the total unimproved vaue, as assessed under the valuation of Land Act, 1925, exceeds £SOO. In the case of companies, such returns shall be delivered at or forwarded to the Branch office of the Land and Income Tax Department where the company’s records are filed, and, in the case of individuals, partnerships, syndicates and trusts, the returns shall be delivered or forwarded to the Commissioner of Taxes, Wellington, C. 3. Any person failing to furnish a return at the prescribed time is liable to a penalty up to £IOO. Return forms are available at any Post Office or from any office of the Land and Income Tax Dept.—F.
