MESSINA FOOD RIOTS
MOBS SACK WAREHOUSES (10 a.m.) LONDON, March 24
Two persons were killed and many injured in food riots by the unemployed in Messina all clay yesterday, states Reuter’s correspondent in Rome. The police and carabinieri were powerless to prevent the crowd from sacking UNRRA warehouses, carrying off rice, flour and sugar. The customhouse and tax office were destroyed before order was restored.
