HUTT’S SUCCESS

WILDING SHIELD PLAY EDWARDS BEATS BEDFORD EXCITING TENNIS SEEN (P.A.) WIXLINGTON, March 25. Winning four of tho remaining six matches in the Wilding Shield tennis contest against Auckland at Lower ilutt on Saturday, Hutt Valley retained tho trophy, which they have now "defended successfully four times, bv nine rubbers to three. Hutt led by live rubbers to one on Friday. They completed tho series with tho loss of two singles matches only. Tho Lower Hutt Club’s courts were in excellent order and the weather was perfect. There was an excellent attendance. One of the most entertaining exhibitions of tennis seen in the Wilding Shield series was provided by the meeting of the 18-year-old Barry and Bold, the Aucklander securing a well-deserved win to register his second singles success.

Radonicli lasted better than Damson in a hard-fought three-set match. Though playing better tennis than on the first . day, Bedford was again piano to errors off simple shots in his match with Edwards. Always steady, more especially with his driving, Lusk was, nevertheless, not able to shake McKenzie, who appeared to take the match with something to spare. Tlie doubles between Bold and Ramson and Barry and Radonicli developed into a marathon "played in a care-free manner, both pairs making remarkable recoveries wliicb kept the spectators on their toes. McKenzie and Kdwards did not settle down as quickly ns usual .against Bedford and Lusk, who wero playing much more confidently than on Friday.
