DEATH AT BUSHMERE
MRS. W. W. SMITH PASSES After bearing an illness long and patiently, Mrs. Sybil Ida Smith, aged 52' years, wife of Mr. W. W. Smith, of Bushmere, passed away yesterday morning at her residence. Although relatives and friends knew of the seriousness of the late Mrs. Smith’s illness, news of her death was a shock and Mr. Smith has been the recipient of many expressions of sympathy in his loss. The deceased was a devoted wife and mother who gave most of her time to her family. Being an enthusiastic gardener, her garden claimed the remainder of her time and the colourful surroundings of her Bushmere home were often admired by passing motorists. Of a retiring nature, Mrs. Smith’s kindly disposition won her the highest respect in the district.
The late Mrs. Smith was born in Feilding. where she spent her early years. She was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Walker, and came to Gisborne over 3,0 years ago with her parents. In 1927 she was married to Mr. Smith at Patutahi, and they lived at Mangapoike for a few years before settling at Bushmere.
Besides her husband Mrs. Smith is survived by a son. Mr. Tony Smith, and daughter, Miss Jill Smith. She has one brother, Mr. Innes Walker, Auckland, and three sisters. Mesdames V. Martin, Onehunga, P. Reid. Tauranga. and N. McArthur, Point Chevalier. Auckland. The funeral, which was a private one, was hold this morning at the Taruheru cemetery.
