SHIPMENT DELAYED

GOLF BALLS ORDER PERMIT NOT ENDORSED (I* A.) NEW PLYMOUTH. March 23. Though the Customs Department has granted a license for the importation of 10,000 dozen golf balls from Canada, the Ministry of Supply has refused to endorse the permit, according to advice received at New Plymouth. The Canadian manufacturers are reported to be in a position to dispatch the balls immediately, and it would be possible for a shipment to reach New Zealand within six weeks. New Zealand cannot obtain balls from the United States, it is stated, and though the British Board of Trade has sent advice that 10.000 balls are available for New Zealand, the shipment cannot possibly arrive before the end of May. The only supply of new balls in New Zealand is reported to be 500 dozen held by one firm, but they are not being released because of the inadequacy of supply in comparison with the heavy demand.
