TEL AVIV MURDER
GERMAN SLAIN TERRORISTS ESCAPE JEWISH ACT SUSPECTED (11 a.m.) JERUSALEM, March 2,2. Gotthilf Wagner, the former burgomaster of the German Christian colony at Sarona was ambushed and shot dead to-day while travelling in a car from Sarona to the neighbouring German colony of Wilhelma. The attack occurred on the outskirts of Tel Aviv. As the car in which he was accompanied by a police escort was slowed down by traffic two armed men approached from either side of the road, both firing into the car. Four men were seen running from the scene. Wagner owned an iron foundry in Jaffa and was a farm owner. He had £BOO with him for paying wages to Arab workers on his farm, but no money was taken. The murder it is believed was carried out in connection with the recent Jewish agitation against the return to local civil life of German Christian residents who were interned during the war.
