MR. CHURCHILL’S WARNING

Sir,—ln the light of current events it looks as if Russia has the whole world bluffed, and the only man who has had tlie audacity (shall we say) to criticise the future aspirations of the Soviet Union, Mr. Winston Churchill, has drawn forth a tremendous roar from the Great Bear. However, Mr Churchill, as was expected, gave a modified speech at. New York which served to calm the strained atmosphere. It is rather amusing to read in the paper of the colossal waste of American army stores, and in contrast the seizure by the Soviet of Japanese machinery and equipment in Manchuria. I have served overseas five years and remember the time in Greece when lack of vision by the Empire leaders gave Germany complete command of the air. We didn't have a

chance. Crete again was an example of British endurance. Whilst America and Britain are disarming, it does not take long for a great Power to build up, especially with materials available within her own borders. I sincerely trust that Mr. Churchill’s warning has been duly assimilated by the responsible members of both American and British Governments; otherwise we, the common people, will again be let down, and. although the Empire has been a good bulwark in past history, a giant wave may break through the best of bulwarks. TWICE OVERSEAS.
