BAND CONTESTS
C GRADE CHAMPIONSHIPS
AUCKLAND WATERSIDERS (X’.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 23. Thu iirst C grade championships to bo held as part of a Dominion contest were decided at tlio Xew Zealand victory baud contest yesterday afternoon. Thu judge said ho was agreeably surprised at one performance, and had no hesitation in awarding iirst place to tile Auckland Waterside Silver Junior Band. He had, however, heard some indifferent and crude interpretations. A women's band took pan in thu contest for the first time and was placed fifth. Results:—
C Grade Championship.—Auckland Waterside Silver Junior Band, SOpts., 1; Crichton Cobbers, Slpts, 2; Temuka Muncipal, 77pts., 3; Lyttelton Marine, 70pts., 4; Dunedin Ladies’ Band, GGpts., 5; Kangiora Brass, G2pts„ 0. Last evening all bands took part in a demonstiation concert.
The contest will be concluded to-day with a quick step competition. B Flat Cornet Solo Championship.— L. Fox (Knwera Municipal), 00 points, 1; ]}. Christiansen (Woolston Brass), 95 points, 2; if. Milligan (Ashburton Silver). 94 points. 3; •L M. Rennie (Timaru Muncipal, 90 points, •t; W. R. Francis (St. Ivilda Municipal), Sij points, 5.
