RUGBY STRENGTH

H. 5.0.8, CLUB MEETS BIG ENTRY OF SENIORS The attendance of members and intending members at the twentieth annual meeting of the High School Old Boys’ Football Club, held this week, indicated a particularly bright outlook for club play in the coming season. The meeting was presided over by Mr. J. L. South, who expressed keen appreciation of the members present and the interest displayed in club affairs. The attendance reached a total of 60. The meeting paid its tribute, in the customary manner, to the memory of member* of the club who had lost their lives in the service of their country. The annual report indicated that finances were sound, and that early payment of subscriptions had become the general practice. Membership had been well maintained through trte past year, and senior, junior and third grade teams had competed in the Poverty Bay Rugby Union’s competitions. The senior team won the district championship, and was successful in the annual match with Hasting* H. 5.0.8.; while the junior team had made a successful visit to Napier and won back the F. Traue Cup from Napier H. 5.0.8. Thirdgrade players had given a good account of themselves in the season’s play. Representative honours were gained by P. Harris, G. Allen, R. White, B. Shaw, J. Francis, T. Naden, Torrie (2), and K. Bullivant, among the seniors, and by McKenzie, Robb, Lunken, L. Symes and Thompson among the juniors. M. Traue had been awarded the Poverty Bay,Rugby Union’s trophy for keenness and sportsmanship, and dub trophies for most improved players for the season went to B. Shaw, P. Thompson and G. Neale and B. Hansen (tie) in the respective teams. In adopting the report, the meeting tendered its congratulations to the teams and individual players upon the past season’s Rugby. Webster and A. Allan: hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. L. Whelan; dub captain, Mr. W. Morrison: delegates to Poverty Bay Rugby Union, Messrs. T. McGuffie and W. Morrison: delegates to Old Students’ Association. Mr. B. Shaw: committee, Messrs. N. Kane, L. Gih«on. H. Lee. B. Preston, P. Harris and J. Smith; trustees, Messrs. W. •Morrison. T. McGuffie and F. L. Whelan. Tentative entries for the respective grade eomnetitions were:—Seniors. 36; juniors, 29; thirds. 20. A training run was arranged for Saturday, at grounds.
