This point was most St So i sai'd Lord Winster, British Minister of Civil Aviation, on his arrival at Auckland from Wellington this mornmLord Winster is.now on his way to Australia after having .attended the civil aviation conference in Wellington. The object of the conference, he said had been to organise a really hne: air service in the Pacific, and he thought he could say that had been achieved A detailed report of the decisions of the conference would be released to the press shortly. , , All the meetings had been conducted in an atmosphere of harmony and friendship. „ . Referring to the types of aircraft likely to be used, Lord Winster said it was the Commonwealth s policy to use British machines whenever suitable planes were available. These would not necessarily be land planes Personally, he was a great bhliever in the flying-boat. When gas-turbine propulsion was in troduced he felt certain the passengers wouud enjoy flying in them. They were speedy and comfortable. Lord Winster said he was very anxious to see cheaper fares introduced. The prices would be fixed by tne international Air Transport Association The lares would depend directly upon the economy of operation of the airlines and the efficiency of the aircraft. International competition also would tend to lower the fares. It would be necessary to watch every penny. ... . Aircraft of the Sandringham he considered, would be able to handle all the passenger traffic offering in New Zealand for some time.
