ALEXANDRIA RIOTS
POLICE OPEN FIRE ATTACKS ON CLUBS ANTI-BRITISH FEELING LONDON, March 5. Several demonstrators were wounded, some seriously, when the Egyptian police again opened fire and charged with batons in an endeavour to disperse stone-throwing mobs which were attacking British clubs in Alexandria today. Five Egyptians who were injured during the demonstration yesterday died, bringing the deathroll to 22, including two British soldiers, who were beaten to death by a mob. British Evacuate Hostels The Egyptian Prime Minister, Sjdky Pasha, flew from Cairo to Alexandria to-day. Egyptian troops and police were posted at all street corners, while lorryloads of troops patrolled the main streets. , The British forces evacuated all hostels during the nigh.t. Sidky Pasha toured the riot area and conferred with the Governor and police commandant while .the crowd outside cheered and cried: “Long live Sidky, liberator of the nation.” A mob demanding the “evacuation of the British .troops,” surrounded and brought to a standstill Sidky Pasha's car when the Premier set out to tour the city. They refused to move and Sidky Pasha was forced to complete his journey in an Egyptian Army truck. The city to-night was much quieter and conditions were almost normal.
