AFTER NEXT ELECTION
Sir, —a correspondent the other clay asked what things Mr. Coleman would do if he were elected again without telling Die electors first. I can remember some of the things he has already done. I can remember him saying there would never be conscription under a Labour Government. That was a clear promise. He helped to introduce conscription a year later, and as a result some of those who voted him in arc still in defaulters’ camps. I remember Mr Coleman complaining bitterly about the’ old Tories extending the life of Parliament, but he did not hesitate to extend his own life. More than anything else I remember that Mr Coleman voted to nearly double his own salary without telling the electors anything about it. Now I hear that he and his friends are cooking up a scheme for next session to give themselves liberal superannuation after they are beaten. They loaded the dice by tinkering with the ’ electoral law, and now they are planning to protect themselves even if this fails. I don’t think your correspondent need worry about what Mr. Coleman will do after next election. That will be Mr. Coleman’s worry. FINISHED.
