OBITUARY
MR. JOHN W. HANKEY The death occurred yesterday _ at the Cook Hospital of Mr. John William Hankey, aged 71, for the past 30 years an employee of Messrs. D. J. Bany, Ltd., and well known in bowling circles. Mr. Hankey was ailing for the past two months. Born at Warrington, England, Mr. Hankey grew up there and mariied Miss Minnie Halsall, also of Warrington. He brought his family to Gisborne 30 years ago, and settled here permanently. A man of good physique and unusually active, he was a competen bowler and took a keen interest m various other sports, especially those in which his four sons, one ot whom died some years ago, took part. k highly popular and much respected in business and private circles. He is survived by Mrs. Hankey and three sons, Messrs. Harry Edward and James Hankey, and one daughter Miss E. Hankey, all of Gisborne. Iheie are eight grandchildren. The burial will take place at the Taruheru cemetery to-day, ing a memorial service at Cochrane - chapel at 1 45 p.m.
