Consumption of Water
The volume of water lo be required for the fire brigades’ demonstration in Gisborne next week has been the subject of comment and correspondence during the past few days, and one correspondent alleged that up .to 100,000 gallons would be drawn from the borough mains to supply the needs of the demonstration. The estimate made by the Gisborne Fire Brigade superintendent, Mr. J. W. Kane, and the borough engineer, Mr. G. F. Clapcol.t, puts the probable maximum consumption of water for the three days of the demonstration at 30.000 gallons. A point made in connection with the Gisborne Borough Council’s decison .to make water available is that the Gisborne Fire Brigade furnished a pump which, throughout the municipal water crisis, pushed up to 150.000 gallons of water a day into the borough system from the Mangapoikc Stream, thereby averting the worst possible effects of the drought so far as the Gisborne Borough was concerned.
