The second of a series of card evenings was held last week in the Mnngnpapa School hr. 11. Ten tables played progressive live* hundred, the first prizes being shared by Mesdnmes F. M. Burrows, W. Goldsmith and H. Lee and Mr. A. R. Williamson, other prizes going to Mrs. T. H. MFFwnn and Mr. V. V. Simpson. Mr. J. T. Hill was supervisor for the evening. FAREWELL PARTY Misses Jane Seymour and Joan Thomas invited their friends to the home of the latter in Owen road last Friday for a 5 o’clock “get together” to bid “bon voyage” to Miss Mary Seymour, who leaves Gisborne tin’s week for Great Britain. The guests enjoyed I lie cool of the lawns and verandah, from which refreshments were served. Miss Seymour greeted her friends in a brightly striped sheer. -Miss Thomas was in mist blue matte crepe, and the guest of honour was smart in a Paisley silk. WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER In 188 S two Presbyterian women in America started an annual day of prayer for missions throughout the world. In 1921 Canada joined with America and the first Friday in Lent was set aside as a permanent day and during the years, as well as for missions, their players have embraced all needy causes, the theme for this year’s being “The things that make for Peace.” The movement has now grown to bn an international one on a large scale and nil deep-thinking women will realise that this year's player is a very noble and necessary one. Each year a different church takes the form of service, which is the same throughout the world.

At, 2.30 p.m. on Friday all women are invited to the service, which will ho held at the Methodist Church, Bright street. Women of 50 nations will be participating and due to our geographical position, New Zealand will open the day and Alaska will closo it, OAK GARDENING CIRCLE At Ln Grand Cafe last Wednesday Mrs. E. R. Perry presided over a good attendance of the Oak Gardening Circle. The afternoon was a “bring and buy.” all the proceeds. .£2 12s. going to tin* S.P.C.A. Mrs. Rrtcliffe. n new member, was enrolled. It was decided to hold a picnic in the Botanical Gardens on March 7. Ono of the members, Mrs. Lewis, who is leaving to reside in Auckland, was farewelled by the members.
