At present visiting Gisborne for the forthcoming annual conference of the United Fire Brigades’ Association is Superintendent W. J. Moore, of the Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brigade, a holder of the 50 years’ service badge and a fire brigademan whose connection with fire-fighting runs back as far ns 1839. He has been superintendent ot the Paeroa brigade for fhe past 40 years.
Her Excellency Lady Newali on Saturday morning opened the annual conference of the St. John Voluntary Aids, held at Wallis House, Lower Hutt. On Saturday afternoon, in the Town Hall, Wellington, in the presence of the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newali, Her Excellency inspected a parade of Red Cross Voluntary Aids. Captain the Hon. D. E. A. Winn was in attendance. On Saturday evening Their Excellencies, attended by Major 11. A. Jaffray, were present at the performance of “The Mikado,” given by the Aimed Services Operatic Society in the Grand Opera House, The chairman of British Overseas Corporation, Viscount Kr.ollys, a’nd Viscountess Knoll,vs, have left'Government House, Wellington.—P.A.
