Mr. Erie Hampton, Derby street, who lias been visiting the south, has returned to Gisborne.

Mr. Justice Finlay, at present presiding at tlie criminal sessions in Wellington. will >eave there to-morrow to preside at the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court in Napier and Gisborne opening on February 18 and February 20 respectively. Dr. R. M. Irwin, who has been in practice in Gisborne since late in 1944, will be leaving over the week-end for Auckland on route to Samoa, where he will take up medical administrative duties. Dr. Irwin’s practice will be taken over by Dr. Stanley B. L. Bo wiser. The acting Prime Minister, Mr. W. Nash, announced in Wellington yesterday that at tlie Government’s invitation Mr E. Ward. Minister of External Territories ana Min'.-ter of Transport in Australia, would pay a visit to New Zealand this month. Tlie main purpose was to discuss informally with members of the Government various questions of mutual interest relating to tlie welfare of the native peoples in the Pacific territories. Mr. Ward also proposed to take the opportunity of discussing transport matters. He will arrive at Auckland on Saturday, and proceed to Wellington by car. I-Ie is expected to remain in New Zealand 10 days.—P.A
