SETTLER’S PROMPT ACTION
The continued dry weather and il s effects upon the fire risk in tree-plant-ing reserves was referred to in the monthly report of the Cook County engineer, Mr K. F. Jones, at yesterday’s meeting of the Cook County Council. Mr. Jones mentioned that settlers were giving welcome co-operation in respect of fire-ranging, and in one instance a settler’s prompt action had stamped out an incipient tire in the Ruakaka reserve before damage was done to the valuable plantation. The settler responsible, Mr. Bruce Spence, was tendered the thanks of the council, which also expressed appreciation of the general co-operation given by ratepayers.
