PALESTINE POLICE
HAVE THEIR HANDS FULL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. A conspicuous arrival among the passengers on the Rangitiki to-day was Sergeant N. G. Davidson, who wore across the shoulders of his military uniform the title "Palestine Police.” A New Zealander from Te Horo. he had been waiting nine months at Suez for a well-earned five months furlough here after joining in 1938. This force must be distinguished from the Palestinian Police, who are Arabs. Part of the time he is on C.I.D. duties in Jerusalem, necessitating the use of three languages, English, Hebrew and Arabic.
He said the police had their hands full in Palestine because they were understaffed and the place was full of terrorist activity. When asked if the outbreaks were sponsored by the people themselves or bands of extremists, Sergeant Davidson said: “Ostensibly the extremists.” He would not comment further.
