RONGOTAI AIRPORT
REPORT NOW COMPLETE “ONLY SUITABLE PLACE" WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. “The time has come when there must be some discussion about the future of Rongotai. I understand the report is complete and is only waiting the return of the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser,” said the Mayor, Mr. W. Appleton, at a meeting of the Wellington City Council last night. n I have not seen the report,” he said, "but I believe that any expert could not fail to decide that Rongotai is the only place for the city airport.” He was speaking to a recommendation from the electricity committee that the council should request the Minister of Works to receive a deputation from the council about complaints of smoke nuisance from the Evans Bay powerhouse. He said that if a decision were made about the airport then there could not be any further question about raising the height of the chimneys at the power-house. There was now double reason for bringing pressure to bear on the matter. The first reason was the smoko nuisance at the power-house, and the second that the Government should release the report on the aerodrome so that the council would know where it stood.
