Squadron For Japan

No. 14 Squadron, which will leave for Japan in less than three weeks to represent the R.N.Z.A.F. in the occupation force, will be inspected by Air ViceMai shat Sir Leonard Isitt. Chief of the Air Staff, at a ceremonial parade to be held at Ardmore this afternoon. The full squadron will take part in the parade under Squadron-Leader J. J. de Willimoff, officer commanding. The Chief of Air Staff will take the salute at the march past and will probably address the squadron. County Fire Service

The fact that many residents of the county within a radius of five miles of the Gisborne Post Office are not aware of the availability of a fire service for their benefit was mentioned by Mr. J. T. Gordon at yesterday's meeting of the Cook County Council. The service was installed on the initiative of the Gisborne Fire Board, in arrangement with the council and the brigade's services were available on calf within a distance of five miles. On Mr. Gordon’s motion, it was decided to public notice of the existence of the service, and also to advise the Wainui Settlers’ Association by letter.

Noxious Weeds

The allegation that noxious weeds were spreading in the county, in some cases from county reserves, was made in a letter received by the Cook County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday. The writer urged that the council appoint a noxious weeds inspector, and through this officer apply the by-laws dealing with weed growths. The chairman. Mr, E. IT. Baker, stated that the council was already aware that noxious weeds had almost got out of control in the ocunty, and had considered resuming the administration of the Noxious Weeds Act in its area. A motion by the chairman that application be made for the necessary authority was supported unanimously, and after discussion the clerk and engineer were instructed to report on the best means of implementing the council’s decision.
