A. & P. SHOW VISITOR DANNEVIRKE, Feb. 14. A guest of the Dannevirke Agricultural and Pastoral Association at the annual show was a man in his hundredth year, Mr. William B. Allen, Carterton Small of stature and wearing a snow-white beard. Mr. Allen was a conspicuous figure in the crowd, particularly beca'use, except for deafness in one car, lie appeared to be in the very best of health. Mr. Allen claims to be the oldest New Zealand-born person. His father and mother came to New Zealand in 1341. He was born at Pipitea Point, Wellington, but most of his life has been spent in the Wairnrapa. His chief farming interest has been Romney sheep, for which he has won many prizes at shows. He proudly exhibits on ills watch chain a gold medal won for a champion Romney ram under 13 months at (he Carterton Show in 1899. He has also been a judge at many shows in both islands. Mr. Allen also claims (o have been the author of several ideas which have been adopted for the improvement of farm machinery. , .. Mr. Allen is a widower. His family consists of two sons and two daughters, while a sister. Miss Allen, aged J 4, resides in Wellington.
