AUSTRALIA’S STAND RETENTION OF PREFERENCE CANBERRA. Feb. 13. Despite the statement by the Secretary of State. Australia’s economy depends on Empire preference and any sudden uncompensated abandonment of it would present Australia with grave economic problems. Therefore, Australia is prepared to back Britain to the limit in resisting any attempt to destroy Empire preference. It is stated unoffiN'illy that Mr. C. R. Attlee has given an assurance that Empire preference would be retained unless other nations made reciprocal concest-icr.4 : Vo Empire generally.
