EGYPTIAN CITIES NEW DISTURBANCES POLICE FIRE VOLLEY LONDON, Feb. 12. Two students were killed and 21) wounded by a police volley into a crowd of demonstrators at Alexandria to-day, says Reuter’s correspondent in Cairo. The police first fired into the air and then against the demonstrators. The police charged a crowd of university and secondary school students who carried on anti-British demonstintions. A number of students were injured by batons. The students earlier telegraphed to King Farouk, among other things, lor the withdrawal of Egyptian support for Britain in the UNO discussion in Indonesia. Students in Cairo armed with sticks and stones broke windows and attempted to march from the university into the city. The police manned the bridge across the Nile in the vicinity and intercepted the march. The procession had formed up after a meeting at the university, where the leaders shouted, “Down with ihe Government! Down with England! Down with Nokrasliy!”
After the demonstration the students withdrew to the university and gathered on the roof of the medical faculty and stoned passing vehicles. The police had to divert the traffic. Several police were injured. The city is still out of bounds for British and American servicemen. It was stated later that six students were injured and 12 arrested during to-day’s disturbances outside the uniyersiiy.
