KINDNESSES TO INMATES
All the children at the Heni Mataroa Home were invited away for the Christmas holidays, thanks to the kindness of friends of the home, it was reported at the monthly meeting of the Cook County Women's Guild held recently. The committee expressed its deep gratitude to those who had shown this kindness to those less fortunate than themselves.
Despite the hot weather, members of the committee had been busy during the holidays painting parts of the interior of the home which needed freshening up. Grateful acknowledgment to the following for gifts of food, clothes, vegetables and fruit over the last two months was paid: Mrs. Clements, Mangapapa Girl Guides, Junior National Party, League of Mothers, Masonic Lodge, Kiwi Club, Regent Cafe, Masonic Hotel, Cafe de Luxe, Mr. Allen, Mr. H. C. Nolan, Mr. Johns, Mrs. Gambrill, Mrs. C. Matthews, Mr. Wise, Mr. Hall (Hangaroa), “Jaycees,” Mr. K Holden, Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board, Intermediate School, Mr. Lupton, Mr. C. hi. Williams, Mrs. Clanachan, Mrs. R. Murphy, Miss Bowen, Mr. J. G. Nolan, Mrs. G. Smith, Mrs. Menzies, Mr. Brittenden, Mrs. Hodson and Mrs. R. Baigent.
