MEETING OFF
WELLINGTON DRIVERS BIG HOLD-UP AVERTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. The stop-work meeting called by the Wellington Drivers’ Union for this morning was cancelled after all-day negotiations yesterday for a settlement of the transport dispute. The men employed by Munt, Cottrell and Company’ Limited, who have been on strike since last Friday, will go back to work to-day. The firm has reinstated the driver whose dismissal created the dispute. These steps have been taken on the understanding that the man’s dismissal will be referred to a committee representative of the employers and workers. The agreement averts the danger of a shortage of coal for gas manufacture and consequent rationing of gas, which at one stage was contemplated. It also relieves the threat of a major transport hold-uo involving numerous unions in the transport industry.
