The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, attended by Major H. A. Jaffray, yesterday morning opened the British Medical Association's conference in the university hall, Auckland. Later at Government House His Excellency handed to next-of-kin decorations awarded to certain deceased service personnel.—P.A. The current issue of the New Zealand Gazette notifies the resignation of Mr, I. S. C. Dalgairns, Ruatoria, from his appointment as a justice of .the peace. Miss Marie O’Gorman and her niece have returned to Wellington after being the guest of the former's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alan McPherson, 36 Centennial crescent. The Mayor, Mr. N. 11. Bull, presided at the meeting of .the Gisborne Borough Council last night, others present being Messrs. H. H. De Costa, deputy Mayor, F. Tolerton, 11. F. Wise, G. D. Muirhead, G. ,1. Jeune, I. J. Quigley, R. Morse, and Dr. A. L. Singer.
Mr. G. M Beaumont, assistant engineer. has returned from service overseas and expects to resume his duties with the council about the middle of March, the Gisborne Borough Council was advised at its meeting last night.
