BOWLERS’ FIXTURE CHAMPION OF SINGLES At a meeting of the Gisborne-East Coast Bowling Centre executive on Monday night, it was agreed that the “champion of champions’' singles competition, sponsored and conducted by the centre, should be held on Saturday, February 16, on the Ivahutia Bowling Club's greens. Mr. E. E. Somervell was appointed to umpire the competition, which will commence at 8.30 a.m. with entries from all the district clubs. The draw for the first rounds was made as under: — Senior Section.—E. A. Beer, Tolaga Bay, v. O. R. Olsen, Gisborne; R. B. Watt, Kahutia, v. H. Roberts, Wairoa; FI. Ritchie, Poverty Bay, v. A. It was laid down by the executive that ail howls to bo used in the tournament must bear the official stamp of 1940 or a later season. Discussion took place at the centre executive meeting, which was presided over by Mr. J. Booth, on the minutes of the recent haltyearly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association. It was noted tkat several alterations of rules were proposed at the council meeting. Tt was agreed that the compilation and distribution of a centre basis of n bowlers’ information handbook would be most, desirable, and the project was hold over, for attention next season. Delegates were reminded that among the visitors to Gisborne for the forthcoming conference and demonstration of the United Fire Brigades* Association there would he 36 members of bowling elubs outside the district. It was suggested that these visitors be entertained by the town clubs in Gisborne on Saturday. March 9, groups of the howling enthusiasts being distributed among the elubs. This suggestion was well received, and club delegates agreed to follow up the matter with their respective clubs.
