72 JAPANESE KILLED
REFUSED TO SURRENDER MOPPING UP ON LUZON MANILA, Jan. 29. A Filipino battalion killed 72 Japanese soldiers in southern Luzon last Saturday after trying for six weeks to persuade them to surrender. About 48 poorly-equipped Japanese escaped into the rugged hills. A search for them is at present in progress. '
