U.S. MAY GET BASES
ADMIRALTY ISLANDS STUDY BY AUSTRALIA (9.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 30. The United States may be granted a naval and air base by the Australian Government in the mandated territory of Manus Island in the Admiralty Group. The whole question of American military bases in territories controlled bv Australia is now the subject of negotiation between the Commonwealth and the United States. Manus Island was captured by the Japanese and recaptured by the American forces which built elaborate air and sea bases there.
