UNO EXECUTIVE NORSE MINISTER SECURITY COUNCIL VOTE (11 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 29. M. Trygve Lie, Foreign Minister of Norway, will become the first secretarygeneral of the United Nations’ Organisation, for the Security Council has unanimously recommended his appointment. The chairman of the council, Mr. Norman Makin (Australia) has commu-
nicated urgently with M. Lie to obtain his final acceptance, which is expected to be forthcoming. There were lour candidates for the position, so the ruling given by the General Assembly was that the Security Council should bring the name of only one candidate for general approval. The secretary-generalship of UNO is one of the most important posts in the world to-day. It carries with it a salary of 40.000 American dollars, tax free, yearly, and a free furnished house.
