GENEROUS RESPONSE
CHRISTMAS DONATIONS HOSPITAL CHEER “There was a generous response to the Christmas appeal, and sincere thanks are due to all who contributed to make the Christinas celebration a success,” stated the matron, Miss J. I. Martin, in her report to yesterday’s meeting of the Cook Hospital Board. Donations totalling £67 3s 3d were received from the following: Mr. Poulgrain, Pa.tulahi Women’s Institute, Red Cross Society, Mr. Hewitt, Rotary Club, Mrs. Shanks, Mr. Innis, Mr. Haisman, Mr. C. J. Morris, Mr. A. J. Evans, Mr Mortleman, Mr. Herniman. Mrs. Earsman Mr. C. G. Bayliss, St. Vincent dc
Paul Society, Mr. J. Fraser, Mr. J. Marshall, Mr. Chas. Meng Yee, Messrs. J. S. Allan and Sons, Mr. A. Smith, Mr. W. F. Isles, freezing works employees, Poverty Bay Garage, and anonymous donors (three). “The Christmas concert arranged by Mr. J. S. Rutherford was an outstanding success and realised £27 3s 4d.” she commented.
Other gifts to Christmas cheer were from Mr. Thos. Adams, Petties, Limited, New Zealand Breweries, Limited, D. J. Barry, Limited, Victoria League, Manutuke Women’s Institute, Mothers’ League, Miss Renner, Mrs. Armstrong, Mr. Stevenson, Anglican Church, anonymous, Mrs. C. Matthews, Mrs. McCrae, Wairoa, Mrs. McCrae, Opotiki. Other gifts for general hospital acknowledged by Miss Martin were from Mrs. M. W. Craig, Mrs. F. Hair, Waerenga-a-hika Sunday School, Mrs. Bellerby, Miss Pyke, Red Cross Transport, and Mrs, Cameron. Gifts to Memorial Home
“I wish to extend sincere thanks to anonymous donors for the gift of magazines and books; also to the Townswomen’s Guild and Diggers' Choir for two enoyable concerts; to the Home Guard Band for playing on the lawn, and to the bands of the Salvation army and Home Guard, and the Church of Christ Choir who rendered carols on Christmas morning,” the custodian of the Memorial Horae, Mr. F. J. Butler, stated in his report. “Sincere thanks are also extended to Mrs, Hollornby' for the gift of a wheel chair from the late H. Edney Estate, and to Mr. O. T Williams (through the Services Club committee) for the gift of a quarter size billiard table; also to Messrs. D. J. Barry, New Zealand Breweries, St. Vincent de Paul, Auckland Provincial Comforts Association, and the bequest of the late li. J. Bushnell for Christmas gifts; to Mr. A. W. Hall for women’s clothing, and not least, to one of our own inmates for the gift of £3 7s 6d towards our Christmas cheer.”
