On present indications,, the by-elec-tion for the Raglan seat in the House of Representatives, rendered vacant bv the death of Mr. R. Coulter, M.P., last month, will not be held until the end of February or early in March. The Speaker, the Hon. F. W, Schramm, has been formally notified of Mr. Coulter’s death, and has informed the Legislative Department of the vacancy. After the usual Gazette notice, the writ for the by-election will be issued. The writ is returnable in 40 days ar M an election is usually held within 30 days of the official notification. 91.2 Degrees in the Shade Yesterday Gisborne yesterday experienced its second hottest day this summer when a minimum shade .temperature of 91.2 degrees Fahrenheit was registered. The recording made at 1.45 p.m. yesterday, 90.2 degrees, was thought to be the maximum, but after dropping a few degrees the temperature again rose and later 91.2 degrees was registered. The drop and rise in temperature in the afternoon is attributable to a decrease in the wind velocity when the highest temperature was recorded. The hottest day this season was last Saturday, when the temperature was 92.2 degrees.
