Stocks of wool in the hands of the Wool Controller on October 31 were valued at £600,000,000, said the President of the Board of Trade, Sir Stafford Cripps, in the House, of Commons in reply to Sir Waldron Sinithers. Sir Stafford Cripps added that substantial quantities, in addition, were in the hand,- of the trade. The Board of Traae.and the Labour Ministry were conferring to assist the textile industry to secure additional labour.
Sir Waidron Smilhers: You may think it necessary to control a shortage but why is it necessary to control an abundance? The warehouses are bulging with wool at great expense to the owners. Sir Stafford Cripps: The necessity arises from the fact that the allocation of the ultimate manufactured material has to be dealt with. Sir Waldron Smithers: There are large orders waiting for export. Sir Stafford Cripps: Certainly, we have not yet got the labour to cope with them.
