TWO STRIKES ENDED

MINERS AND SEAMEN RESUME

ONLY SIX COLLIERIES IDLE

ABSENTEEISM LESS THAN USUAL

(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.)

(10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 18. All but six mines in New South Wales resumed work yesterday. The attendance at the mines was good, the absenteeism in many cases being lower than normal. Three mines on the south coast, in line with the decision of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, refused to work with "black” power from the Australian Iron and Steel Company at Port Kembla. The miners at two other south coast mines defied the decision to resume production and stayed out in sympathy witn the other idle miners. The only northern coal not being worked is at the Gaidars open-cut, where the drivers of bulldozers, for reasons unknown, did not report for work. The seamen in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane decided to resume work and similar decisions are expected from other ports where meetings are being held. The seamen s decision will mean that the available coal quotas will speedily reach Sydney and other coal-starved States.
