RETURNING TROOPS

ARRIVAL AT GISBORNE

TIME NOT KNOWN YET

So far no definite advice has been received by army district headquarters of the date of arrival in Gisborne of servicemen who are passengers by the Mooltan.

The ship is expected to arrive at Wellington on Thursday, but the time is not known here. If personnel are cleared in time, those whose homes are in the Wairoa, Gisborne, East Coast and Bay of Plenty districts probably will be accommodated in two extra carriages on the Wellington-Gisborne express, which departs at 9.40 a.nr. and reaches it* destination at 11.5 p.m. Personnel will be given a welcome upon their arrival at the railway station bv the Mayor of Gisborne, Mr. N. H. Bull, or his deputy, by representatives of the army and the R.S.A., and by local bands, as well as by their relatives and friends.

It is not proposed to barricade off the station on this occasion, but army district headquarters appeals to the public generally to allow the men to attend to necessary minor formalities upon their arrival, so that they can be taken to their homes as quickly as possible.

A total of 77 servicemen are expected to travel to Gisborne. Those whose homes are in or near the town will, if they are not met by friends with cars, be taken there by the army or the Red Cross transport service. Other servicemen will be accommodated overnight by the army and will travel to their homes the following day. ___________
