JUNIOR ATHLETES
NEW SEASON OPENED
Oificials of tile Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club expressed pleasure at the satisfactory entries at the post at the opening meeting of the new season on the Childers Road Reserve last evening.
In most events good fields were attracted and the interest displayed in the junior section was particularly encouraging. The reappearance of B. Whitton, Gisborne’s junior champion distance runner, and several othffr notable athletes, including W. Bignel! and D. Davis, senior and intermediate High School champions respectively, also the High School steeplechase winner, J. Sloan, bore out the belief that the junior classes would bo strongly supported this year. Each of these entrants, together with the High School junior champion, R, Meban, gained places. Last evening’s meeting was more in the nature of a trial for the participants to test their capabilities after a lapse of several months and also for handicapping purposes.
